Fun For the Family!
A great resource for the whole family. Illustrations can be used as a conversation starter for children to enable them to gain knowledge on different cultures and religions.
As we are living in increasing cosmopolitan societies, the younger generations are growing amongst many people from a variety of cultural, racial and religious backgrounds.
The only way forward to live in harmony with each other is to learn, accept and celebrate our different identities.
Why should you support us?
The profits made from this product will be directed to improving the speech and language therapy services to individuals with acquired or progressive neurological conditions with communication and swallowing difficulties.
Our aim is to create high quality resources, assessments and therapy tools that can be personalised for any individual and help them improve their quality of life.
Who are we?
Speech Therapy interactive is a private practice based in Loughton/ Essex area.
We work primarily with adults with speech, language and communication disorders.
We are working towards making SLT (speech & Language Therapy) services more accessible to different cultural, lingual and religious communities.
We do this in part by creating diverse assessments and resources for existing SLTs and/or families to use with their patients and family members.
Why are we producing these resources?
The illustrations used in this product were specifically created with the intention to represent our multicultural, multilingual and multi-faith communities.
They were initially produced as a speech and language therapy assessment resource for those from an ethnic or religious minority background, who need SLT services.
The inspiration behind the illustrations is the underrepresentation of these minorities in many areas such as healthcare services, education, media, and much more.
Often, in the majority of these services, mainstream western culture is usually what is represented and promoted, as it is seen as the ‘default’ culture.
The consequence of this for minorities are issues of feeling isolated, misunderstood and not being able to identify or resonate with the services. Additionally, it will deter these communities from accessing or interacting with these services/products if they do not see themselves represented.
The lack of diverse services and products also means a lack of awareness and education about diversity for those who grew up in western culture. Therefore, the unavailability of this means that individuals from these backgrounds are less likely to understand people from cultures other than their own.
Our products and services not only benefit minorities by making them feel seen and offering them products with which they can resonate but they can also be used as an educative tool for those who are wanting to increase their cultural and religious competency and knowledge.
